Demystifying Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) Can I really be reprogramed?

Friday, January 9th, 2009

mental_healthWhat if I said to you that there is a way to reprogram your mind for the better? As you read these words you can let yourself relax…and slide into a state of mind where you find yourself imagining a life from this day forward without any: fears, phobias, insecurities, or self limiting beliefs. I bet it feels pretty good to imagine that. With Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) all that and more is possible.

Let’s start with taking apart the ‘N-L-P of NLP’ and put it into a form you can easily understand:

N = Neuro
Stands for how senses filter and process experiences before storing them in the brain.

L = Linguistic
Stands for how a person uses words and symbols to create mental pictures of those experiences.

P = Programming
Stands for how desired new habits and attitudes become ingrained.

NLP is the application of techniques guided by natural rules proposed for modifying behavior in achieving self improvement, self management, self control and more effective interpersonal communications.

Side info-bite: Tony Robbins - do you know who he is? He is a huge motivational speaker who has based a lot of what he has done around NLP principles.

In the area of self improvement a person can rid themselves of fears, phobias and self limiting beliefs through working with a certified NLP practitioner. When your mind learns how to let go of what is holding you back then the only direction you can possibly go is forward.

In the area of self management a person can learn to better control their emotions and responses to the various situations life throws at us. Imagine yourself speaking in front of 500 people and not even breaking a sweat or experiencing rejection and simply letting it breeze by with a ‘next in line’ mentality.

In the area of  interpersonal communication a person can become a more effective communicator by learning how to structure sentences to carry more message and meaning. Not to mention learning how to gain rapport (comfortability) with strangers fast and build meaningful connections fast. Why do you think so many politicians and executives have NLP coaches?

If you have begun to find your own reasons as to how NLP  can be helpful in your life then you are starting to get it. Since it has occurred to you that working with a life coach certified in NLP  can be beneficial, ask yourself which area of your life you would like to improve and imagine desired outcome it is your seek. Everything starts in the mind and as you know it’s pretty obvious that to move forward we must move beyond what is holding us back.
